Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s some viral marketing!

This crazy video features French Yves Rossy, a “Jetman” and his daredevil apprentice Vince Reffet. Rossy is no foreigner to crazy jetpack feats, he flew over the Grand Canyon on a jetpack four years ago and has beforehand been seen flying around the skies of Dubai.

This video, was taken by four small aircraft on the dawn of October 13, is a partnership between XDubai and Emirates airlines. It displays two guys, attached to a kevlar arm and four engines, flying with an Emirates A380 airplane – a commercial plane also known as the superjumbo jet. The Jetman website quoted, these jetpacks weigh just 40 kilograms (88 pounds) and can fly at up to 314 kilometers per hour (195 mph). The pair, both skilled pilots, was deployed at 1,676 meters (5,500 feet) by a helicopter and unconfined a parachute to safely return to the ground.

"While the formation airlift looked effortless on film, meticulous planning and meticulous collaboration with an intense focus on safety drove all efforts," Rossy and Reffet said on their website.

You can visit and view the stunt in the video below, or check out the behind-the-scenes here.

China is reaching the final stages of constructing the world’s biggest and most delicate radio telescope. The government-owned China Central Television has unrestricted drone footage presenting their development, as well as the vertigo-inducing magnitude of it.

The 500-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) is being constructed deep in the hazy mountains of Pingtang County, positioned in the Guizhou Province of southwest China. Assembly has been going on since 2011. When completed in 2016, the FAST will come to be the biggest radio telescope on the planet – at 500 meters (1,640 feet) in diameter, its dish will trump Puerto Rico's Arecibo Observatory, which is 300 meters (984 feet) wide.

Wu Xiangping, the director-general of the Chinese Astronomical Society, said to Xinhua News, "Having a more sensitive telescope, we can receive weaker and more distant radio messages. It will help us to search for intelligent life outside of the galaxy and explore the origins of the universe."

China will have to foot an similarly massive bill for this project, with assessments suggesting it will cost around 700 million yuan ($110,328,309).

To Keep Patient’s Hand Alive for a Month, Surgeons Grafted It to Patient’s Own Leg

Demred Dichosa     5:07 PM     China, Grafted Hand     No comments

In a story that echoes the happenings of 2013, another Chinese working person has had their hand amputated – and sewn back onto their leg to avoid wasting the unembodied extremity from dying. once feat the hand in situ for a month, the arm from that it had been removed had with success well enough to permit the doctors to reattach it.

After obtaining his mitt caught in a very spinning blade within the plant within which he was operating, the patient – solely known as Zhou – was rush to a neighborhood hospital in China’s Hunan province wherever he was ab initio told that he’d lose the hand. He was then transferred to Xiangya Hospital within the province's capital, that had much more expertise in “replantation” surgery, with an equivalent team additionally acting the known 2013 surgery.

Defined because the “reattachment of the amputated limb exploitation the neurovascular and contractile organ structures,” the primary flourishing replantation surgery occurred in Japan in 1965, involving reattachment of a personality's thumb once it had been cut off by a steel cutting machine. Since then, fingers, toes, arms, legs, ears and even penises have all been replanted back onto their various locations.

According to the yank Society for Surgery of the Hand, replantation ought to usually follow 3 steps. the primary is that the broken tissue ought to be rigorously removed, followed by shortening the ends of the bones, however solely within the cut off limb and not within the stump. this can be a security live just in case replantation isn’t flourishing and also the stump should be reconstructed. Finally, the tendons, arteries, nerves and veins ought to be repaired, if necessary exploitation grafts.
Because of the severe harm done to each the arm and hand, and also the time it'd view as them to recover, it had been set that the simplest possibility was to hook the hand up to a blood offer from another a part of the body. “In traditional temperatures, a cut off finger ought to resume blood offer at intervals ten hours. The time is even shorter for a separated limb,” Dr. Tang Juyu, head of hand surgical process at Xiangya Hospital, told People’s Daily. “If it falls wanting blood for long, the tissues die and it'd be not possible to urge it back.”
Since the hand has been reattached throughout AN epic 10-hour surgery, Zhou has shown slight movement in his fingers, tho' clearly he still desires for much longer rehabilitation to urge something close to full perform back within the hand.

Army Cockroach

Demred Dichosa     2:46 PM     cockroach, roach     No comments

Following disasters such as earthquakes or tornadoes, it can be challenging to locate and rescue survivors from collapsed buildings. A group from North Carolina State University have designed “cockroach cyborgs” to aid in the search and rescue effort. The roaches’ antennae are connected to little electronic backpacks with microphones that draw them toward sound, like from the cries of a trapped individual. The team has published two papers describing this “biobot” technology, which utilizes Madagascar hissing cockroaches and a Kinect-based computer platform.

"In a collapsed building, sound is the best way to find survivors," Alper Bozkurt said in a press release. Bozkurt was the senior author on both papers.
In order to accurately find the source of the sound, the team had to engineer two different kinds of biobots. The first type has one omnidirectional microphone that can pick up sound and transmit it back to first responders.
The second type of cockroach backpack has three directional microphones. The computer chip analyzes the sound coming in from the microphone array, and will tell the biobot to move toward the source of the noise. Of course, the rubble of a collapsed building is going to have a cacophony of sounds, from the cries panicked survivors, to falling debris, to the sound of extraction tools.
"The goal is to use the biobots with high-resolution microphones to differentiate between sounds that matter -- like people calling for help -- from sounds that don't matter -- like a leaking pipe," Bozkurt says. "Once we've identified sounds that matter, we can use the biobots equipped with microphone arrays to zero in on where those sounds are coming from."
The paper describing these acoustic sensors was presented on Wednesday at the IEEE Sensors 2014 conference in Valencia, Spain by lead author Eric Whitmire. The team has been able to successfully steer the biobots through sound in the lab, which you can see here:
The team presented a paper that detailed the invisible fence in August at the 36th Annual International IEEE EMBS Conference in Chicago. The fence can be seen in action here:

Once the biobots have successfully aided rescuers in locating survivors, nobody wants them to be able to run free and continue to chase down the next source of sound. The team has also designed an invisible fencing system that keeps the biobots in a specified zone. In addition to preventing the public panic that would ensue from a roaming band of rogue roach cyborgs, keeping the biobots in close proximity of one another allows their devices to connect and act as a mobile wireless network.

Gorilla Charges And Break Glass Window At Zoo After Little Girl Beats Chest

Demred Dichosa     6:06 PM     gorilla, Henry Doorly Zoo     No comments

Trending Stuff and Viral News

A playful young girl beat her chest in the presence of a silverback gorilla at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. Seconds later, the gorilla aggressively reacts, attempted to break into the window, and cracked the glass inclusion. The scare tactic efficiently did as planned, terrifying everyone in the vicinity away.

Nevertheless, what the footage emphasizes more than whatsoever is how different procedures of communication among animals can go twisted—and how it can get us into an unlikely situation when they are counter-intuitive to what we suppose. What may be friendly to us, may actually be hostile to them.

Body language is a dominant tool, especially when communicating (on purpose or accidentally) with a different animal. As an example, eye contact and chest-beating establishes supremacy among gorillas, but displaying your pearly whites can get a bit trickier. If you smile without presenting teeth, you could be showing playful behavior. "[During play, gorillas] conceal their teeth and open their mouths as if to suggest, 'I could bite you but I'm not going to,’” scientist Bridget Waller articulated BBC Nature.

Conversely, the teeth bared in a grin may essentially be a form of obedience or pacification. "It's a greeting; a inferior display,” said Waller. In Africa, western lowland gorillas have additional smile that is a mix between the two—their top teeth are exposed, but the bottom ones are not. It's possible this keeps play by decreasing any hesitation during long bouts of good-natured combat.

“Several primate species also show their teeth when they squeal,” Waller told Wired. “These languages tend to look different to the lingoes I studied in gorillas, as the upper and lower teeth are both uncovered, and the mouth widely open.” These expressions are often more anxious, vocal and indicate aggression.

For Kijito—the 375-pound male gorilla—it may have just been a matter of diverse signals. What the girl found humorous, the gorilla deemed hostile. Officials at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo said that no one was at risk, even when the pane of glass fractured.

Northern Male White Rhino Is On 24-Hour Guard As The Last Of Its Kind

Demred Dichosa     3:59 PM     extinct, kenya, white rhinos     No comments

Currently, different species of plants and animals in our planet are becoming extinct and some are already extinct. Including this male white rhinoceros.

Sudan is the last remaining northern white male rhinoceros that was left on the planet. He is home residing in Kenya at Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Together with Sudan, two female northern white rhinoceros also live there. It was alleged that the rhino's horn can be vended at $75,000 and above per kilo which really leads them under a great threat.

There were really three male rhinos but unluckily two of the males died in 2014 leaving Sudan as the remaining of its kind. Since the genus of northern white rhinoceros lies on Sudan, he is well taken care and looked after. As the last northern male white rhinoceros, Sudan has a 24/7 armed guard guard.

The guardians of Sudan really take the risk on him very seriously that is why they needed it to be protected all the time. There are 40 armed rangers that guard around the 90,000-acre conservancy which is likewise home to 23 white rhinos and 105 black rhinos making it the principal rhino sanctuary in East Asia.

Nevertheless, the 40-year old rhino named Sudan is their main concern together with the two female northern white rhinos.

The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is hopeful that they can raise funds to keep the rhino rangers safe and sound; so that in return these white rhinos can re-populate.

Phone In The Future Can Be Charge In Just One Minute Using A New Aluminum Battery

Demred Dichosa     10:42 PM     aluminum battery, ion-battery     No comments

trending stuff and viral news

trending stuff and viral news

Imagine an ultra-fast rechargeable battery that is also cheap and lasts longer. Since it is made of aluminum, the new battery is a safer substitute to conventional lithium-ion and alkaline batteries millions of us are using nowadays.

For decades, researchers have been observing aluminum (the same stuff in beer cans and foils) as material for batteries: It is flexible, cheap, and has low flammability and high-charge storage ability. But efforts to develop a commercially feasible aluminum-ion battery have been unsuccessful. Like most other batteries, these are encompassed of two electrodes: a negatively charged anode (here, made of aluminum) and a positively charged cathode. The difficult part has been finding the precise material for the cathode -- something proficient of producing sufficient voltage after repetitive cycles of charging and discharging.

Today, an international team led by Stanford’s Hongjie Dai have unintentionally discovered a humble solution using graphite, which is mainly carbon. They positioned a graphite cathode , aluminum anode and an ionic liquid electrolyte (a salty liquid, essentially) in an elastic pouch covered with a polymer.

The team hopes that their new batteries will take-over alkaline batteries, which are hazardous for the environment, and lithium-ion batteries, which may sometimes spurt into flames. Even though they are somewhat of a fire danger, lithium-ion batteries are used in most of our laptops and smartphones. “Lithium batteries can go off in a haphazard manner -- in the air or in your pocket,”

Moreover, they say their discovery battery is also ultra-fast charging and unbelievably durable. Unlike the hours some of us is spending to recharge our phones, their prototype has a charge time of 60 seconds. And it’s able to tolerate more than 7,500 charge-discharge cycles without mislaying its capacity. A usual lithium-ion battery, for contrast, lasts about 1,000 cycles.

Regrettably, this new rechargeable aluminum battery will not be ready for us sooner. For one thing, this battery produces about two volts of electricity. While that is further than your everyday 1.5-volt AA and AAA batteries, also as any other aluminum prototype thus far, that is only about half the voltage of a typical lithium battery.
